Design Story
Design Story
Great design is not about hiding the structure. It is about letting structure become part of the beauty.
For Hill Rest Chair, beauty is built into the structure itself. The joint between the rear legs and the backrest becomes the defining expression of the chair. There is no extra decoration and no unnecessary line work. Every connection and every transition returns to the natural order of the chair.
We wanted this chair to express more than a good look. We wanted a posture that grows naturally out of its construction. Form follows function, use returns to quiet, and the chair gains a character of its own.

Bring Quiet Back to the Space, and Give the Chair More Character
A solid wood chair that balances structural beauty and everyday use
Joints as Beauty
The rear legs and backrest flow into each other through a carefully designed mortise-and-tenon connection, creating the visual focus of the chair while making the load-bearing logic clearer.
Armless Design, Lighter Form
With no arms, no upholstery, and no complex lines, the chair feels cleaner and fits more naturally into different spaces.
Solid Wood Throughout, Strong and Durable
Built entirely in solid wood with mortise-and-tenon construction, the chair is designed for material strength and long-term stability.
Two Wood Versions, Different Space Fits
The walnut version feels warm and grounded, while the ash with black finish version works especially well in modern minimalist interiors.
Mortise-and-tenon shaping gives the chair its posture
At the core of Hill Rest Chair is the idea that structure and posture should be considered together.
The rear legs and backrest are not simply joined. They transition through an integrated mortise-and-tenon form, creating a more direct load path and a more complete overall shape.
There is no extra ornament. Instead, the proportions, corners, and joints are carefully controlled. With a clear structure, the chair feels lighter, cleaner, and more orderly in a modern interior.
A curved seat and a wide angled backrest for comfortable support
The sitting experience has been carefully refined.
The solid wood seat uses a curved form that follows the body’s pressure points, creating a more natural seated feel without harsh pressure.
The backrest is wide and angled, with a fuller support surface that gives the back a steadier, more relaxed hold.
The angle between the seat and backrest has been balanced as one whole, making the chair not only visually refined, but also well suited for everyday sitting.
The Art of Detailing
Precision Structure as Decoration
The backrest itself becomes the visual focus. The refined mortise-and-tenon joint works as the most natural form of decoration, creating a striking detail through restraint.
Ash in Matte Black, with Fine Brushed Texture
The ash wood version uses a matte black finish with a fine brushed texture, preserving the natural grain while giving the surface a more modern, elevated look.
Full Mortise-and-Tenon Construction, Higher Strength
The legs and seat are connected with a full mortise-and-tenon structure, creating a more direct load transfer and stronger overall stability.
Thicker Solid Wood Seat, Firm Support
The thick solid wood seat is shaped with a curved form, improving both structural strength and seated support for a more natural long-term experience.
Thorough Finishing, Every Detail Matters
From the backrest to the seat and even the underside, every edge is carefully finished. Details that are seen and unseen are treated with the same level of care.
A Simple, Pure Chair
Returning to the essentials, from structure to sitting comfort
