Design Story
Design Story
Windward Chair feels like a light silhouette standing in the wind.
We wanted it to rest in a space with ease. With no armrests to interrupt the form, the lines feel lighter and the volume more restrained. Even as a single chair, it remains elegant and comfortable without taking up too much visual space. The upholstered seat rests gently on the wood frame, creating a look that is never bulky, while the seating experience stays naturally relaxed.
We wanted Windward Chair to blend quietly into a room and soften the atmosphere around it. Placed beside a dining table, in front of a vanity, or in an entryway corner, it brings a calm and graceful presence wherever it goes.

A Chair That Looks Elegant Anywhere
A light, refined chair that does not take up space
Light in Form, Soft in Silhouette
The chair has a small visual footprint, with slender and gentle lines that feel elegant rather than heavy in a room.
One-Piece Upholstery, Complete Comfort
The upholstered seat and backrest flow together as one, creating a cleaner look and a softer seating experience.
Clear Material Boundaries, Better Balance
The upholstery rests lightly on the wood frame, with clear material separation that still feels visually unified.
Walnut Wood, Mortise-and-Tenon Construction
North American walnut paired with mortise-and-tenon assembly gives the chair a more secure structure and better stability.
Walnut Frame, Upholstery Lightly Resting on Top
Black walnut forms the chair’s structural frame, while the upholstery rests lightly on top of the wood.
The two materials remain clearly defined, yet their visual relationship feels harmonious, which gives the chair a lighter overall appearance.
This restrained connection creates a more distinctive character and a stronger sense of identity.
One-Piece Curved Upholstery
The seat and backrest are hot-pressed into a single curved form, creating smoother lines and a more unified silhouette.
The 3D curve allows the upholstery to follow the body more naturally, adding a fuller wraparound feel and improving comfort.
The chair looks slender and light, but still offers a soft and comfortable seating experience.
The Art of Detailing
Mortise-and-Tenon Joinery, Clean Transitions
Solid wood joinery creates neat structural connections and smooth transitions, showing the refinement of the woodworking process.
Solid Wood Back Support, Clear Layers
The upholstery rests lightly against the solid wood back support, and the material relationship becomes more noticeable up close.
Full Upholstery, Fine to the Touch
The composite leather finish is smooth and refined, with a soft touch and improved resistance to wear and scratches.
Hot-Pressed Forming, Elegant Curves
The seat and back are shaped in one piece with a hot-pressed curved form, allowing the large-radius corners to flow naturally without sharp transitions.
Sculpted Seat, Naturally Supportive
The softly recessed seat creates a more natural support surface, following the body’s shape more comfortably.
A Chair That Softens the Space
Light in posture, comfortable in use
